BOTTOM FISHING

The latest news on bottom fishing out of Ilwaco, Washington

Q: What are 'Bottom Fish'?

In Marine Area 1, anglers are allowed to retain sablefish, Pacific cod, yellowtail rockfish, widow rockfish, canary rockfish, redstriped rockfish, greenstriped rockfish, slivergray rockfish, chilipepper, bocaccio, and blue/deacon rockfish and lingcod retained north of the Washington – Oregon border on all-depth halibut days.

BOTTOM FISH

With the curtailment of the salmon season in the late ’70s, Pacific Salmon Charters Inc. started exploring the possibilities of catching limits of bottom fish.

We found large quantities of bottom fish 18 miles from Ilwaco. Milt found a spot the fish off the coast of Washington with much larger fish and limits of rockfish and lingcod. We will fish this spot more, as the weather will allow us.

In Marine Area 1, anglers are allowed to retain sablefish, Pacific cod, yellowtail rockfish, widow rockfish, canary rockfish, redstriped rockfish, greenstriped rockfish, slivergray rockfish, chilipepper, bocaccio, and blue/deacon rockfish and lingcod retained north of the Washington – Oregon border on all-depth halibut days.

The scenery as you travel to the bottom fish grounds is very exciting and beautiful, so bring your camera.   Give us a call to set up an inland bottom fishing trip to see what you may catch.

TUNA CHARTERS

There is no set season for TUNA fishing; we fish when the fish arrive, typically in the later part of July and continuing through September.

We had some wonderful catches last year with some big fish and are expecting great fishing this year.  What great fun for everyone and the excitement of live bait when they hooked into one of those speeding bullets known as tuna.

“Upon returning to the dock there were tall tales of fishing, wildlife and water conditions. Pictures were then taken and people coming from everywhere to view the catch. We had a few bystanders who asked to have their picture with the catches. I wonder what kind of a story they told!”
